It's Time We Retire the Word "Settlement." It's Misleading Propaganda

Israel is being beaten up by President Obama and his Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, who are using an Arab propaganda word to clobber israel.

It's time we retire the word "settlement" in respect to apartment or housing developments, condo conversions, or subdivisions in Israel. It can be retired gracefully from further discourse, simply by Israelis refusing to respond to it. They should insist each one be called what it actually is.

It is of course pure propaganda! The term was coined by pro-Palestinian Arab propagandists who know very well that if you capture the subject nomenclature, the propaganda victory eventually falls into your lap. It was created when US Indian rights were a topic of discussion, leading to their broadened rights to create profitable casinos. No one is preventing Arabs from creating profitable businesses with all the fabulous aid money they receive from us. So far its main use has been to assist them to create fabulous personal accounts in European banks.

A developer building a housing development or apartment building in Tucson is not accused of creating a Settlement! Nor in Boston or its suburbs, or in New York or New Jersey. Not on Long Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont or Maine. Not in Hawaii or Alaska! Not in Oregon or Washington, or Florida or North or South Carolina or North or South Dakota! Not in California or Kentucky or Virginia or Washington, D. C. Not in Mississippi, or Missouri, or Louisiana. Not in Nevada or New Mexico. Not in any of the fifty U.S. states. Not in Bahrain or Indonesia or Pakistan or India or Panama or Costa Rica or Puerto Rico or Guam. Not in North or South America. Not in Europe, Great Britain. Not in Asia.

Remember, over ninety percent of Israelis live in an area the equivalent of that within Route 495 around Boston. That's why the term Settlement is so ridiculous! Do we buy a house or condo in a settlement in Sudbury or Marlboro or Gloucester Massachusetts? How about Morristown or Mountain Lakes, New Jersey? How about one in Marana or Tubac, Arizona? Shall we buy in a settlement there? Is this a good time to buy or rent in a settlement in Carlsbad, San Bernardino, or Santa Barbara, California?

Did Apple build a settlement in Cupertino, CA? Yes indeed! Did Microsoft build a settlement in Redmond, Washington? Of course they did! It must be called that if we want to use consistent terminology. So how did they get away with that? Oh, they call them "campuses." That's the new politically correct word.

In only one place in the world is the misleading term "settlement" applied to a housing development, condo complex, or subdivision. Guess where. Just within commuting distance of Tel Aviv, Ashdod, or Haifa. That means only in Jerusalem and the West Bank. These are all places within a 90 minute or so commute, of Tel Aviv, Ashdod, Ben Gurion Airport in Lod, or Haifa.

Israelis should refuse to discuss any matter, or answer questions, or agree to interviews, with anyone, unless the conversation will be couched in appropriate terms of housing developments, condo conversions, subdivisions, or even campuses ;)) Once the word "settlement" is used, even inadvertently, the conversation should be redirected to discuss why the term is misleading propaganda. Network representatives will get the message if their intended propaganda sessions no longer work as they had planned, and instead their use of misleading words becomes the focus.

We Americans should call or email our favorite news anchors, newspapers, magazines, and/or news gathering agencies, and tell them that it is inappropriate and offensive propaganda, and they should no longer use the incorrect and intentionally misleading term "settlement."

Sending an email to the White House and to your Senators and Representative would help too.
